Choose by operating distance, obstacles and receiver antenna, then test reception at the positions you use every day.
During irrigation, gardening or water transfer, the pump may be some distance from your work. Walking back to its power switch each time adds unnecessary trips.
A handheld pump remote lets you switch equipment within its effective range. The advertised distance is a starting point: terrain, walls, vegetation and antenna configuration also matter.
HONEST HT-9220KG offers configurations with open-area reference distances of 1000, 2000, 3000 and 5000 metres. They use different remotes and receiver antennas. The series maximum does not apply to every kit.
How does an open-area rating differ from working range?
An open-area reference describes radio performance under the corresponding conditions. At your site, pump-room walls, trees, slopes, buildings and metal equipment can affect reception.
A clear view of the pump room and a route passing behind several buildings can produce different results over the same map distance. Tell us both how far you need to operate and what lies between you and the receiver.
Which site conditions should you check?
Mark your normal operating positions: watering points, field edges, store entrances and other places where you regularly stop. Do not measure only the furthest point.
Include buildings, changes in elevation, dense vegetation and metal cabinets in your site description. A receiver inside a cabinet, behind a wall or beside large metal objects requires attention to antenna placement.
Use the remote antenna as instructed and choose the receiver and external antenna locations for the actual site. A higher distance rating does not replace sensible installation and a reception test.

These are open-area reference distances for the stated configurations. When ordering, specify the complete configuration name, remote type, receiver antenna and included accessories.
See the HT-9220KG product page for specifications and configuration photographs.
How can you verify everyday operation after installation?
With someone observing the pump, first test ON and OFF near the receiver. Then repeat from the places where you normally work.
| Test position | Obstacles | ON result | OFF result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Near the pump room | Record on site | Normal / abnormal | Normal / abnormal |
| Usual watering point | Record on site | Normal / abnormal | Normal / abnormal |
| Furthest working position | Record on site | Normal / abnormal | Normal / abnormal |

Test the final installed arrangement and your actual operating positions. Follow the pump's required intervals between starts; do not repeatedly cycle it just to test the remote.
HT-9220KG also has a receiver button for local operation when the remote is elsewhere or its battery needs replacing.
When should you consider phone control?
If you often leave the farm or need to operate equipment from another location, consider HT-2401G mobile control instead of relying on a handheld radio link. The controller needs a suitable local 4G connection and service.
Read our handheld versus 4G pump control guide to compare the two approaches.
